Murex refers to any gastropod of the genus Murex, located in tropical seas. It is a type of shell with purplish red color which is used as a trumpet. Murexes are one of the seafoods made into appetizers in Sardinia where they are called Murici. These are shellfish that are boiled for ten minutes and served in their beautiful shells in very hot water.
