Songphyun refers to a traditional Korean crescent-shaped rice cakes filled or stuffed with bean paste or sweets, such as, sesame seeds and sugar, red beans, chestnuts and dates It is one of the foods served during Korea's annual Chusok festivities. Songphyun is one of the must-have favorites foods during Chusok.
Chusok is also known as Korean Thanksgiving. Chusok, which means "fall evening," was traditionally a day in which Korean farmers performed a worship ritual and offered food made from their new crops to their ancestors as a token of gratitude.
Nowadays, families celebrate this holiday together by paying respects to their ancestors, playing games and eating food made from freshly harvested rice, grains and fruits.
