Horiatiko Psomi
Horiatiko Psomi means village bread in Greece which is generally made from a mixture of whole and refined flour.
Bread was once the staple food of Greeks and still eaten at every meal. In Greece, there are different breads for different occasions.On Clean Monday, the first day of the 40 days of fasting before easter there is an unleavened bread sold on the streets. During Easter there is the famous bread with the red easter egg in the middle of it. There is also the famous Pita bread ; the Paxamadia which is a hard bread eaten at breakfast, dipped in hot milk or coffee, or topped wih tomatoes, onions, Feta and olives; and the Kalouria which are skinny bagels sold on the streets by vendors on foot or with small carts for people who are always hurrying up to do their business and no time to sit down for a proper meal.
